A Google Business Profile Checklist for Pakistani Businesses
Every field, category, service and photo worth setting up, in order.

Why Most Pakistani Businesses Lose Map Pack Enquiries
Walk into Raja Bazaar and you'll find traders sitting on better stock, quoting fairer rates, and still losing every Maps call to a smaller shop three doors down. It's almost never the business itself. The profile is what's letting them down.
Half the listings in this country are sitting there unfinished. Wrong primary category, blank service list, three grainy photos taken in 2019, a grand total of two reviews. Google reads all of that as a weak signal and hands the spot to somebody else without saying a word. So this Google Business Profile checklist for Pakistani businesses is ordered by what genuinely moves local rankings, not by whatever makes you feel productive.
Every day we're doing map pack and local search work for clients around Rawalpindi and the twin cities, and geo grids tell us what's happening rather than gut feel. Work the list yourself if you've got time. Or pass it to us.
The Checklist at a Glance: What to Fix and in What Order
Sequence beats effort here. Correctness first, then completeness, then reputation, then the ongoing stuff. Chase reviews before your category is sorted and all you've done is send strong signals into the wrong search.
| Checklist Item | Why It Matters in Pakistan | Effort | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verification | Unverified profiles rarely enter the map pack at all | Medium | 1 |
| Primary category | Carries most of the ranking weight for your money keyword | Low | 2 |
| Services and descriptions | Matches long tail searches in English and Roman Urdu | Medium | 3 |
| Service areas | Twin cities buyers search across Rawalpindi and Islamabad | Low | 4 |
| Photos and videos | Drives taps to call and direction requests | Medium | 5 |
| Messaging and WhatsApp routing | WhatsApp enquiries outnumber form fills locally | Low | 6 |
| Reviews | Decides who wins when three profiles look similar | Ongoing | 7 |
| Posts and offers | Keeps the profile active through Ramadan and wedding season | Ongoing | 8 |
| Questions and answers | Pre answers price and timing objections | Low | 9 |
| Insights review | Tells you which searches produce phone calls | Monthly | 10 |
Step One: Get Verified and Get Your Name, Address and Phone Right
- Only the legal trading name goes in. Something like "Best Cheap Tiles Rawalpindi" will get reported by a rival within a month, and suspension follows. Whatever's painted on your signboard is the safe bet.
- Write the address like a courier has to find you. Plaza name, then shop or office number, block, phase or scheme, and finish with the closest landmark. Commercial Market plazas and those Peshawar Road showrooms genuinely need that much detail.
- Move the pin by hand. Bahria Town phases and DHA blocks are notorious for automatic pins dumping you on a completely different street.
- Give a number that somebody actually picks up. Mobile numbers are perfectly normal here. A landline ringing into an empty room does more damage than having no landline at all.
- Get your video verification footage ready. Signage, the street outside, the inside of the place, your stock or tools, then close on a document with the business name on it.
Slow down and do this once properly. Getting a suspension reversed drags on for weeks, and you're invisible the whole time.
Step Two: Pick the Primary Category That Matches Buyer Intent
Most of your ranking weight sits in that primary category. Secondary ones just patch the edges. Choose whatever your best customer would type with their thumbs, not the title that flatters you at a family dinner.
Mismatches we keep running into across the twin cities:
- Satellite Town dental clinic filed under "Clinic" when "Dentist" was sitting right there
- Tuition academy on Sixth Road calling itself a "School" instead of a "Tutoring service"
- Peshawar Road tile showroom listed as "Wholesaler" rather than "Tile store"
- DHA property firm hiding under "Consultant" instead of "Real estate agency"
Sanity Checking Your Category Against the Competition
Grab your phone, switch off wifi, and search your money keyword from inside your own area. Write down the top three map results.
- Put their primary category next to yours
- Count their reviews and photos against your own
- Whichever gap is ugliest, close that one first
Step Three: Fill Services, Products and the Business Description Properly
Blank service lists quietly cost you long tail traffic. Those entries are how Google matches searches that never once mention your category name.
- Break every service out on its own. Skip "dental services" and list scaling, root canal, braces consultation, whitening.
- Two or three lines under each. Say where you work, who usually books it, what's included in the price.
- Add products with PKR pricing if you're selling physical goods. Saddar retail profiles show obvious engagement lifts once they do.
- Keep the description plain and factual. Roughly 750 characters on what you do, who you serve, and which pockets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad you actually cover.

Step Four: Set Service Areas the Way the Twin Cities Really Work
Pindi and Islamabad run as one economy, whatever the map says. A workshop on Adiala Road takes calls from people searching in G 11. Your settings should admit that.
- Got a storefront? Keep the address showing and layer nearby areas on top as service areas
- Service area businesses hide the address entirely and can list up to 20 areas
- Name real localities: Chaklala Scheme 3, Bahria Town, Westridge, Rawat, plus whichever Islamabad sectors you genuinely reach
- Lahore and Karachi stay off the list unless you truly operate there, because overreaching waters down your local relevance
Step Five: Photos, Videos and Why Yours Are Losing Taps
Photos won't rank you on their own. What they decide is whether a thumb taps call or keeps scrolling. That single moment is where most profiles quietly bleed enquiries.
- Exterior shot, daylight, signboard readable without squinting
- Interior that shows the place the way a customer sees it walking in
- Team photos, because faces earn trust faster than logos in this market
- Work underway or finished results, nothing older than 90 days
- One vertical video, 20 to 30 seconds, phone camera is fine
Drip two or three fresh images in every month instead of dumping forty at once. Steady beats a single burst.
Step Six: Route Messaging Straight to WhatsApp
WhatsApp runs the enquiry game in Pakistan. Treating Google messaging as some separate channel just leaks leads. Put your WhatsApp number in as a booking or appointment link and buyers reach you where their thumbs already live.
- Drop a WhatsApp click to chat link into the appointment field
- Save a greeting that asks for area and requirement in the first line
- Answer during working hours, since Google marks you down for slow message replies
- Tag which enquiries came off Maps so return on investment isn't a guess
Step Seven: Build Reviews Without Breaking the Rules
When three profiles look near identical, reviews break the tie. Volume counts. Recency counts more. And replies matter far more than most owners assume.
- Ask face to face the second you hand over the work, then send a WhatsApp link behind it
- Share the short Google review link and nothing else, never a screenshot of instructions
- Buying reviews or trading discounts for them wrecks your trust permanently once they get filtered
- Reply within 48 hours to all of them, the angry ones included
- Slip the service and the area into replies naturally, no keyword stuffing
Step Eight: Keep the Profile Alive Through Pakistan's Selling Seasons
Activity tells Google there's a real business here. Demand in Pakistan moves in obvious cycles, so your posts should ride them instead of recycling generic updates.
- Ramadan and Eid: changed timings, seasonal offers, whether you're delivering
- Wedding season: packages, booking cut off dates, portfolio shots
- School admissions: open days, fee structures, transport routes
- Property cycles: fresh listings, possession updates, financing options
Weekly posts are enough. Then write three or four Q and A entries yourself covering price ranges, parking, timings and payment methods, Easypaisa and JazzCash included.
Step Nine: Read Insights Monthly and Actually Act on Them
Filling the profile in isn't the finish line. Pull the performance data once a month and read it like a scoreboard.
- Which search terms brought views, and whether those terms match what you sell
- Calls and direction requests, impressions on their own mean little
- Which photos and posts got people interacting
- Whether your visibility sags the moment you stop posting
Ninety days of consistent effort and still flat numbers? Nine times out of ten it's the category, review velocity, or a competitor with a much stronger website propping up their listing. Fixing exactly that is what our retainer and project pricing is built around.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to rank in the map pack in Pakistan?
Six to twelve weeks of steady work is where most profiles start shifting. Property, clinics and salons in Bahria Town or DHA are brutal and take longer. Fixed positions can't be promised by anyone, and an agency claiming otherwise is just guessing loudly.
Can I use my home address for a Google Business Profile?
Sure, as long as you really work from there. Set it up as a service area business and keep the address hidden from public view. Consultants, contractors and online sellers all over Rawalpindi do exactly this.
Does a Google Business Profile checklist for Pakistani businesses work without a website?
It works. Just not as well. Listings backed by a proper website with matching name, address and phone details hold their rankings more reliably, and a simple 5 page site usually does the job.
Why did my Google Business Profile get suspended?
Usual suspects: a keyword stuffed business name, a virtual office address, a pile of edits made all at once, or somebody reporting you. Sort the root cause out first, then file for reinstatement with clear signage photos and a business document attached.
How many reviews do I need to compete on Google Maps?
Enough to match or beat the top three for your keyword in your area. Across plenty of Rawalpindi categories that lands somewhere between 25 and 60. A slow monthly trickle wins over a sudden batch every single time.
Should my profile target Islamabad as well as Rawalpindi?
Almost always. Buyers cross between the twin cities without thinking twice for services like yours. Add the Islamabad sectors you genuinely serve into your service areas, then mention both cities in the description.
